Global vehicle stocks are aging rapidly, with over 10 million cars scrapped annually in China alone. Bumpers — high-wear components replaced frequently during repairs — account for a significant waste stream. Composed mainly of PP, ABS, and metal inserts, discarded bumpers pose serious environmental risks if landfilled or incinerated. Efficient mechanical recycling transforms this waste into valuable feedstock, driving the automotive industry’s green transition.
Recycling material
Car bumper recycling yields multiple recoverable materials. The primary output—PP and ABS plastic pellets—can be refined into high-grade recycled feedstock for manufacturing new bumpers or other plastic products. Electroplated ABS bumpers carry surface coatings of nickel or chromium, recoverable through professional refining for industrial reuse. Additionally, brass and steel structural components can be extracted and recycled, maximizing material recovery and minimizing resource waste.
Bumper recycling process
1.Primary Shredding — Dual-shaft shredder reduces whole bumpers into manageable pieces
2.Primary Metal Removal — Overband magnet + magnetic roller extract metal inserts and fasteners
3.Fine Crushing — Hammer crusher grinds material to 3–12 mm fragments
4.Secondary Metal Removal — Second pass magnetic separation ensures zero metal residue
5.Pelletizing — Clean plastic is melted, extruded, and cut into uniform pellets for remanufacturing
Machine advantage
Double shaft shredder:
The device adopts a dual axis rotating tool design, which can quickly and effectively crush large bumper materials into smaller pieces suitable for subsequent processing through high-strength shear and tear forces. The tool system has been carefully designed and optimized, coupled with a stable power transmission mechanism, to ensure uniform and consistent crushing effect.

Suspension magnetic separation and magnetic roller device:
This device applies the principle of strong magnetic field technology and can accurately and efficiently separate metal accessories and other magnetic impurities from materials through the collaborative operation of suspension magnetic separation and magnetic rollers. Its strong magnetic field attraction ensures the thorough removal of impurities, thereby ensuring the purity of recycled materials.
Hammer crusher:
The hammer crusher uses a high-speed rotating hammer head to apply impact, shear, and grinding effects to the material, quickly crushing it to the desired particle size range. This device has multiple advantages such as strong processing capacity, high crushing efficiency, uniform particle size distribution, and low energy consumption, which can significantly enhance the added value of recycled materials.
